Reform Car Title Lending - Pass HB406

The Issue

Alabama’s working poor and elderly face up to 300% interest rates on car title loans. There is a bill that would bring sweeping reforms to this unregulated industry, but it’s stuck in committee. Tell the Committee on Financial Services to stop obstructing car title lending reform - send HB406 to the floor immediately for a vote!

Thousands of people in Alabama are trapped in car title loans every year. With impossible interest rates of 300%, they either end up paying thousands of dollars in interest for years or they lose their family car. HB406 would help fix that. HB406 would lower these interest rates to 36%, and extend loan terms so that every day people have a chance to pay what they owe.

HB406 has broad bipartisan support, with over half of the Alabama House of Representatives as cosponsors and substantial public backing. However, there is opposition in the House Committee on Financial Services. Just a few legislators could block democracy. Help us tell members of the committee to let HB406 come to a vote on the floor!
