One of my first Summer jobs was working overnight at a chicken farm. Even Though we wore masks, the potent smell of the ammonia burned my throat and eyes. Upon opening the doors of the sheds, I’d see thousands of crammed chickens. A forklift would bring down the cages. Then, about eight workers would take handfuls of chickens by the feet, three on one hand, and four on the other. We would toss them hard so they would fill the cages all the way to the back. We’d proceed until the “cell” was completely packed. These images would forever haunt me. We NEED to put an end to animal abuse!

I was disturbed to find out that Jack’s has failed to uphold its anti-animal cruelty promises. In 2017, the company pledged to transition to 100% cage-free eggs by the year 2025. Cage-free commitments are a significant first step in sparking real change for animals at the corporate level. It's not just these birds in sheds, but the many animals around the world subjected to cruelty and inhumane treatment. My family and friends have supported Jack’s, and we hope that they do better and be transparent to its consumers!
