Demand Biphobic Article be Taken Down
The Issue
An incredibly offensive article has recently been posted on TheTab.com insulting many aspects of the LGBT+ community. Claiming - among other things - that the "gay-straight binary is collapsing", that labels such as bisexual are only "a way of impressing other people", and that people who claim such a label "never actually take same sex experiments very far".
These ideas are not only inaccurate but also extremely damaging, especially for students to read in what should be an unbiased student newspaper. This article promotes the idea that LGBT+ people are "just going through a phase", which fails to provide a correct image of what sexuality and romantic attraction are and displays severe lack of understanding on the writers' part.
More than that, the writer is mocking the ability of young people to question their sexual, romantic and gender identities. People - especially young people - should never be ridiculed for trying to explore such identities. It's this kind of mentality that harms thousands of people trying to find and live with their own expression. This is not just a writer voicing an opinion, this is blatant discrimination.
It is the feeling of LGBT+ Society of Strathclyde University and all the people signed below that this article is in very bad taste and should be taken down. Furthermore we would like an apology from the writer, William Lloyd.
