Jack Lis: Sentence review for the people responsible for his death

The Issue

Jack Lis, my son, was taken on the 8th November 2021. He went out to play, met his friend, his friend wanted to show Jack his new dog. They went to the friends house where this dog attacked and killed my Jack.

This dog was brought into the area by Brandon Heydon who co-owned the dog with Amy Salter. There was CCTV released after they were sentenced showing Brandon beating the dog more than once and shows the dog lunging at people outside the shop, including children. This dog attacked a dog and two people, that we know about, before killing my son.

Heydon was given no sentence for the 3 charges of having a dog dangerously out of control, he was given 6 months each for the two causing injury and just 4 and a half years for the death of Jack. He gets to serve this in a detention centre, because he is 19. He is allowed to serve this concurrently, which means all at the same time.

Salter received just 3 years - yet had the same charge brought against her, and because she isn't a young offender this could have been a lot more.

When reading the sentencing guidleines, they could have received more for some of the offences. Not even an offence was brought forward of animal cruelty. After court I was told I cannot appeal the decision.

After some time of reading and thinking, I asked for legal advice from the CPS and having no reply I have taken it upon myself to ask for an appeal anyway. I would like to set up this petition to show just how many people disagree with the ruling. I have written an email ready to send to the Attorney General's Office and the deadline to send it is by 8th July 2022. No time at all really.

I am Jack's mum, and if i don't try something then I will never forgive myself.
