The Issue
Hey guys. I would like to warn you all of CASHAPP. IT'S A BIG SCAM.
So 3 weeks ago, on May 8th 2021 to be precise, I woke up early to get ready for my daughters' birthday party. It was also the day I was receiving what we call Chama or Merry Go Round. For those who do not know what Merry Go Round is, its a way of saving money, where we have several people that we trust, get together and every other week, we send a certain amount to a person. For example, we are 20 in a group and every other week, a different person received $100 times 20 and this goes on until all 20 people had a turn. So many people were sending their contributions to my cashapp that night.
I soon noticed a Cashapp notification when I checked my phone and was eager to check and see who else sent their contributions. But to my surprise I quickly noticed that my cashapp had a $0 balance. My cahsapp was hacked and cleared of $1447. A few more transactions have been attempted and as soon as yesterday, which was May 25th there was another transaction from Wawa in Odessa, FL of $50, but that declined. Now back to Merry Go Round, this is money that I have return every other week but I didn't even benefit of it.
There were 15 different transactions from 5 different cities in CVS in NY: Valley Stream NY, Rockville Centre, NY, Oceanside, NY, Freeport NY, Hewlett, NY, between the hours of 2am and 4am. Mind you I live in Dallas GA and was nowhere near NY. Now they used my cashapp card that CashApp provided me with, to make those transactions and not my bank card which makes it even more difficult to expect a refund. The sad part is that all 15 transactions were pending for 24 hours before they completed right before my eyes and I had no way to stop those transactions. Cashapp should make it possible for the users to cancel such transactions, or Cashapp should be able to stop those transactions from their side.
I reached out to cashapp immediately via email. They tell me to wait for the transactions to clear and then file a claim. What??? Then I should reach out to the merchants and dispute the transactions with them which to me is bullsh*** considering I didn't make those transactions and had no idea who to call... Well I googled CVS in those cities in NY and obviously reached a dead end. They also claim that I might have shared my info with someone...blah blah blah, which isnt true. I managed to call CVS HEADQUARTERS who after a little investigation told they can't see any of those transactions in their files. Well, great.
Anyways... I filed a claim with cashapp and it's such a waste of time, and headaches, very stressful, and frustrating situation. As of this date, we have exchanged a total of 20 emails and every email you send, you get a response 2+ days later and each time it's a different person responding, having no idea what your needs are. Worse part is even after enabling my card, the scammers still try to make transactions, some declined and others went through even with a $0 balance. So my cashapp balance is currently negative meaning I now owe cashapp $$$. Never heard of it.
We work hard enough for the little money we get for others to enjoy our hard work and sweat, for free. And for Cashapp to not care. We give them business and in return we get broker and broker and they actually don't care about it. So if you can stay away from cashapp, especially those using their cards, please do so. Many of us use it for one reason or another, especially for fundraiser/business and even stocks. DON'T RISK IT. They are watching us all and wait for the right time... lol. They are so many stories out there but until it happens to you, you won't believe it's real. Well I am a victim who learnt the hard way. Cashapp is great until it's not. Their security system and customer service are mediocre amd suck and they shouldn't be allowed to operate. I will do a better job even without any background in IT, if I was in charge.
So I want to campaign for everybody to boycot Cashapp until they fix the issues and make it safer for people to transact with them. They have to be accountable for their mistakes, lack of proper customer service and what not, have a better customer service, security system or nothing at all.
