This petition is to support all the New Zealanders who are currently overseas, whether a resident, a worker, a student or a stranded traveller.

The New Zealand government is seriously considering charging for mandatory managed isolation. 

We are awaiting further details surrounding figures and policys in fear, distress and disappointment. 

At one point our nation's prime minister (Jacinda Adern)  said "we will never not let our own citizens back in to our country" 

She also acknowledged the United Nations declaration of human rights and the New Zealand bill of rights would be broken if the borders were to be shut to everyone.

By bringing in a monetary charge (of a large approximate sum of $3000nzd)  returning citizens and dependants are actively and intentionally being discouraged from returning to our home country. 

By doing this every single person that has been affected by covid-19 whether it is by job loss, numerous cancelled flights, family emergencys, charges of relocation, tenancy and contract breaking charges, price gouging by flight company's, refunds not being issued on cancelled flights. 

And any single person who is experiencing hardship outside of their homeland will now forsee an extra hardship if this policy goes into place. 

On top of all the emotional, physical, social and spiritual health that has been affected during this crisis the government has decided to add to a lack in empathy by introducing the idea of charging and add financial hardship to those who are returning, as above, majority of those reasons have already cost overseas new zealanders their livelihoods. 

By dissuading with a charge that are unrealistic and for most people returning to NZ it will be unobtainable they are violating the very principle of "never stopping new zealanders from returning to their own country" 

By financially discouraging returning citizens we are having our rights discriminated against based on our ability to fork out or not to return home. 

This is intentional financial discrimination and an attempt by the government to find a loophole to violate our basic rights as New Zealanders. 

It also leaves those the most vulnerable citizens outside of new zealand at most risk. The ones with no means for support and those who are no longer legally permitted where they are

This has been the key factors NZ citizens have been returning 

 

Our main goal here is to actively request that no new zealand citizen is charged for quarantine.

We are arguing our legal rights as citizens and believe New Zealand doesn't need a backwards step by revoking rights after being a progressive country for so long. 

Let us come home, be with family, contribute to the economic restart and don't penalize, prevent and discrimate against our rights for wanting to do that.
