STOP ILLINOIS BILL 3913 to protect CHILDREN from easing restrictions for SEXUAL OFFENDERS
ILLINOIS BILL 3913 is being proposed to amend laws that would ease restrictions for SEXUAL OFFENDERS.
Currently, sexual offenders can not live within 500 feet of a school, playground, day care facility, or facilities providing programs exclusively for children under the age of 18. Bill 3913 would cut the residency restriction in HALF from 500 feet to 250 feet. A significant change that undoubtedly places more risk of harm to our children.
For reference, our neighboring states have the same residency restrictions, however, much stricter.
- Indiana = 1,000 feet
- Iowa = 2,000 feet
- Wisconsin = 1,500 feet
If this bill passes, Illinois is granting an open invitation to surrounding sexual offenders by making it easier for them to reside in our communities that are densely populated with small children.
