Animal shelters around the country, not just in Illinois, are forced to operate on solely the funds from their adoption fees. If you’ve ever looked at the cost of adopting a pet and compared it with the cost of “buying” a pet, you will truly see how little revenue these shelters are bringing in.

Many shelters across our state are running out of space, food, and other materials needed to properly shelter these animals and make sure they go to proper homes in a safe and healthy way.

We can all donate more food, more toys, more blankets, even our time. However, the shortage of funds is something that can only be solved by our state governments assuring that these organizations are receiving the help they need to continue taking stray, homeless animals off the street and creating happy families.

Governor Pritzker, please reform the way the that shelters are funded and make sure they it is easier for them to operate than the “pet stores” that support puppy mills.
