Bottle Deposit In Illinois

The Issue

Currently, there are 11 states that have laws that charge a deposit for recyclable beverage containers. One of our neighboring states, Michigan, does this, and it greatly reduces the amount of litter seen there. It encourages people to recycle, discourages littering, and also provides a way for homeless people to collect trash and recycle it for a small amount of money.

In the Chicago metropolitan area, especially, litter, and homelessness/panhandling are huge problems. Obviously, enacting a bottle deposit law will not completely solve either issue, but it is a small thing that could make a long term, wide spread impact over time.

Please sign this petition to encourage the governor of Illinois, and possibly other states as well, to incorporate a bottle deposit law.
