Our classes have been assigning an unreasonable amount of work to get done. Just because we’re stuck at home does not mean the teachers should be able to double the coursework. After talking to many of my peers I’ve noticed none of us are sleeping properly. Now I’m sure this isn’t the case for everyone but I’d still like to point it out. Many students stay up to three or four am whether they be doing homework or just not being able to fall asleep. Another issue is that all the teachers are using different platforms. We have teachers using canvas, google classrooms, khan academy, estudio. It is extremely hard to remember everything we need to check and move through distance learning without missing assignments. If my Spanish teacher assigns is forty different assignments for the week through estudio and canvas, each one take five to ten minutes. My English teacher has me read two acts of a book, complete two act study guides, an art project, and prep for an essay. My history teacher gives me daily assignments and keep up on work given before quarantine which we were not notified to continue working on until we got the due date a couple days before. My math teacher gives us a quiz every Friday as well as giving us daily hour long assignments, videos to watch, and homework checkpoints. My chemistry teacher is giving us four page long packets to do almost daily as well as quizzes on topics we don’t understand because there has been no teaching. These are all just examples to describe my daily workload, and it’s not just that. For many of us we have both parents working, meaning we have to do a lot of chores and help out with pets or whatever daily tasks need to be complete. I know this sounds stupid and ridiculous but when we’re working from home it’s a different vibe, it’s not a school vibe where everyone is motivated and working together. We aren’t motivated. Most of us are missing assignments and we don’t want to. We cannot maintain a healthy lifestyle and continue to function in a school and home environment with the way this school is operating. I’m sure some people can handle this and I applaud them for that. But for someone with ADHD, like myself it makes it even more difficult.
