Indiana University Bloomington needs a police accountability board in order to best serve students on campus. The racial tension in America is hitting a breaking point after the brutal murder of George Floyd. Police departments must be held accountable for protecting citizens. There is a stark, understandable disconnect between the African American community and police officers, due to the police brutality that is all too prevalent in America. I believe change starts locally, which is why this police accountability board is important.

The board will collaborate with all students — but specifically students of color in making sure everyone feels more comfortable, as well as insuring officers and held accountable for misconduct. I will send letter to the police chief, and hope this petition shows her the importance of this board in the community. Thank you for the support!
