An Update! I received a phone call from Anika Varty, a Seattle Times editor, and together we went over the Proviso’s section regarding cash. The editor agreed that the original comment misrepresented what’s actually in the Provis0, so we got an edit that puts cash in its appropriate context, to be calculated and potentially awarded at the State and National level. Below you’ll find the edit.

New Statement- “Researchers will identify possible frameworks for calculating and awarding reparations at the national and state levels, including cash payments…”

The media will be a critical tool used by our opponents to undermine our work, attempting to control the narrative in order to shape public opinion, so it’s of great priority that we set the rules of engagement with the Seattle Times, the biggest newspaper in WA state, right out the gate!! Thank you so much, Jim Buchanan, the heavyweight champion of getting things done; Will Townsend, founder of American Renewal 1870, who’s been protecting the interests of Freedmen since the beginning of this reparations journey, and one of the most inspiring educators I know; Jamin Mason, top tier in the game, fearlessly speaking up and getting activated for our people, he’s never one to sit on the sidelines. And thanks to all those who reached out to me behind the scenes to cheer me on. I love it!!
