I have been an active member of the NAACP locally with chapter #1134: under the leadership (or lack thereof) of Robert Harris for the last year. I gained access to the NAACP trying to activate my civic duties by trying to focus on the descendants of the Black American Negro Freedmen (B.A.N.F) community who built the foundation of this country with SLAVE LABOR! I realized through a fellow reparationist that the best way to do that was by forming a Freedmen Affairs Committee in my district and starting to hyper focus on our people specifically
That being said I organized a (F.A.C) presentation during a monthly meeting with the NAACP to show how and what the Freedmen Affairs Committee was designed to do and how I felt our people were getting overlooked due to policies and practices designed to erase the (B.A.N.F) community in an endless onslaught of flat blackness. Our local President attended that meeting and told me via email that he would be in touch to discuss how to move forward with establishing the committee. After a couple more attempts at reviving the conversation I realized I was either being gaslit or blatantly ignored.
I renewed my membership this year to expose this injustice to the (B.A.N.F) community who were the soul people the NAACP was supposedly created for by silencing my voice simply for trying to advocate for us. And then after seeing the Urban Leagues (a sister organization to the NAACP) submission to the Office of Management and Budget saying that the (B.A.N.F) community should not be able to delineate as a specific people aside from those of African decent I would be a fool to not see a pattern here that causes further harms to the (B.A.N.F) community. Only one people went through the horrors of the transatlantic slave trade and only the bearer's of that immense burden should be repaired for those harms.
Reparations to the (B.A.N.F) community isn't a lottery ticket to all people who have melanin to their skin. It is a specific debt owed to the (B.A.N.F) communities as directed in Special Field Orders #15. So now in closing I would ask Derek Johnson and the NAACP board where do you stand on this specific issue? And if your answer to that doesn't align with the (B.A.N.F) community WHO GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO REPRESENT US?
