The Issue

It’s scheduled for Monday!!
For the last few days we’ve been working with CTDOT for an extension while we work on a solution that may appease everyone.
The bottom line was always about saving the tree.
However, After trying to find a feasible alternative, it seems there is no other solution other than to take the tree down,

Please join us today (Sunday) at 3pm to say Goodbye to a beloved part of our towns history.
Thank you so much for everyone’s tireless efforts.

For almost as long as most of us can remember, a majestic tree has stood at the heart of our community, witnessing generations come and go. This tree is not just an ordinary plant; it is a living piece of our collective history, serving as a constant reminder of our town's rich past and vibrant present.

Now, this iconic tree is under threat of removal, an act that would erase a vital part of our identity. The decision to uproot it comes despite the fact that it continues to thrive, boasting good health and robust growth. For those of us who have cherished moments beneath its branches, this tree is irreplaceable.

The proposal to remove it has met with fierce opposition from thousands of residents who recognize its significance. This tree has withstood the test of time, and it deserves to thrive for many more generations. Removing this landmark would not only disrupt the ecological balance but also diminish our community's spirit and connection to its heritage.

We urge the local authorities, and CTDOT and any and every decision-maker to find an alternative. Alternatives such as rerouting the plumbing system. We’ve already lost so much of the small town charm to the overwhelming amount of new housing, traffic and residence.

Let us stand together to preserve our town's history and safeguard our beloved tree for the future. Sign this petition to voice your support for saving our landmark tree and to show our leaders that this community treasure must remain for the enjoyment of future families and neighbors alike. Together, we can prevent the unnecessary removal of this precious part of our environment and heritage. Our voices matter, and with your support, we can ensure they are heard loud and clear.

The Decision Makers

Harry Rilling
Former Norwalk City Mayor
Responded
City of Norwalk staff and multiple divisions within CTDOT explored every viable alternative to save the tree. Unfortunately, despite everyone’s best efforts, no feasible solution could be found, and the tree will have to be removed. The City will continue to look for areas in East Norwalk and elsewhere to plant additional trees.
