We're now 6 weeks out from the Parliamentary vote in Qld which will determine whether we get to have the same compassionate end of life options as Vic, WA, TAS & SA.  This Petition is now sitting at 85,730 signatures and climbs by the day.

Our opposers - the majority of them religious/right to life groups are doing what they have done in every state that has passed legislation - they are flooding the mailboxes of MPs to demand that they oppose this legislation, to pick the Bill apart, and to do their usual "scare-mongering".

It is so important that you email/write to your local MP and let them know you support VAD and support the Qld Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill in its current format.  The Bill has been carefully and comprehensively constructed by the Qld Law Reform Commission over 15 months, taking into consideration the Victorian legislation and other legislation that has been passed.  It is safe, rigorous and comprises over 100 pages of safeguards.  Please don't think an email/letter from you won't make a difference.  It will.  VAD is not just "going to happen" - there are Politicians who are sitting on the fence, listening to the voices of opponents when the most important voices of all are those of us who have real lived experiences of losing our loved ones through intolerable and harrowing suffering.

We support good palliative care but that does not mean that voluntary assisted dying should not be part of end of life options.  We know even the most exceptional palliatiave care cannot alleviate all of the suffering that accompanies terminal/incurable diseases.  PLEASE, PLEASE - write to your local MP.  We've waited a long time for this!
