One Year On – Why Your Support Matters More Than Ever

Over the past year, this campaign has become far more than a petition. It has become a voice for thousands of women and families who have experienced the devastating impact of endometriosis and years of systemic failures in healthcare.

Since launching this campaign, I have spent the past year working tirelessly to ensure that patient experiences are heard where it matters most.

Together with countless advocates, clinicians and patients, we have seen Ireland take important first steps. In October 2025, Ireland launched its first National Endometriosis Framework and the Expert Specialist and Advisory Ireland Scheme (ESAIS). These developments represent progress that patients fought for over many years.

However, a framework alone cannot answer the questions so many families still have.

For the past year I have continued to engage with Government representatives, TDs, Senators, health officials and patient advocates. I have shared my own lived experience publicly through national media, podcasts, public speaking and meetings with policymakers because silence has never improved healthcare.

During this time I have also continued navigating my own complex journey with Stage 4 endometriosis. I travelled internationally through the ESAIS programme seeking specialist opinions after multiple surgeries in Ireland, highlighting the reality that many patients still cannot access the expertise they need within our own health service.

This campaign is about much more than my own story.

It is about every woman who was told her pain was normal.

Every teenager whose symptoms were dismissed.

Every family affected by infertility, repeated surgeries, delayed diagnosis, chronic pain and the emotional and financial burden that comes with this disease.

An independent National Inquiry would allow Ireland to examine:

• Why diagnosis continues to take so long.
• Why so many women have experienced delayed or inadequate treatment.
• The long-term impact of medical misogyny and gender bias in healthcare.
• The lessons that must be learned to ensure future generations receive better care.
• How accountability and transparency can strengthen the implementation of the National Endometriosis Framework.

This is not about assigning blame.

It is about learning from the past so we can build a healthcare system that truly listens to patients.

As we approach the anniversary of the Sinn Féin Endometriosis Motion being debated in the Dáil, I want to acknowledge every patient who shared their story. Your courage has already changed Ireland. Together, we helped bring endometriosis into the national conversation.

Now we must take the next step.
