Now that Endometriosis Awareness Month has come to a close, the real work begins.
Awareness without action is not enough.
We must now prioritise the conversations that truly matter:
- Governance within endometriosis advocacy
- Accountability and transparency across all advocacy spaces
- Recognition of independent advocates who worked for years to help shape the framework we have today
- Calling out misrepresentation of work and timelines, where credit is taken without alignment to lived reality
- Addressing the toxic online culture that is making it unsafe for patients to share their experiences
- Challenging public shaming of individuals for how they choose to raise awareness
- Questioning endorsements of platforms and accounts that contribute to patient harm
- Ensuring government recognition of independent support groups that existed long before any national framework
- Ending gatekeeping of information and events - community access must come first
This community deserves better.
We are also calling for:
A National Inquiry into Endometriosis Care in Ireland
- Into the delays in diagnosis and treatment
- Into the historical failures in care
- And for redress for patients who had to fight - often alone - for the progress we are only now beginning to see
This is not about division.
This is about truth, safety, and accountability.
Because no patient should ever feel silenced, unsafe, or erased in their own healthcare journey.
