Mise à jour sur la pétitionIssue an Expert Irish Endometriosis Framework - let us have a National Inquiry🔔 Petition Update: Why Specialist Standards Matter

The recent case involving Melbourne surgeon Simon Gordon has sent shockwaves through the global endometriosis community.

Regardless of geography, one truth is becoming impossible to ignore:

General gynaecology is not an endometriosis speciality.

Endometriosis is a complex, systemic disease. It can infiltrate the bowel, bladder, nerves, diaphragm and other organs. It requires advanced excision training, multidisciplinary teams, specialist imaging, and trauma-informed care.

Yet patients worldwide are still being referred to general gynaecology services for a condition that demands sub-specialist expertise.

This is exactly why I have spoken out publicly since 2015.

Surgeons who were not trained in endometriosis speciality surgery destroyed my fertility, my body’s function, my physical shape, my life plans and my ability to thrive.

I wasn’t “ranting.”

I wasn’t looking for “likes, shares & followers”

I was creating awareness.

I was highlighting a gap in training and standards that was falling on deaf ears.

Instead of systemic reform, I spent years navigating legal processes and medical trauma - losing time, money, health and opportunity.

Last October 3 years post my 15th surgery in Ireland I travelled to Romania for Specialist Scans.

Now, as I await approval under the ESAIS scheme and prepare - for the first time in 21 years since my diagnosis - to be treated by a true multidisciplinary specialist team, I am confronted with the reality of how different my life could have been if specialist standards had existed from the beginning.

Twenty-one years with a diagnosis.

No patient should have to wait two decades to access appropriate specialist care.

What is happening in Melbourne is not an isolated issue. It is a global systems failure.

And this is why we need a national inquiry into endometriosis surgical standards, training pathways, referral systems and patient outcomes.

If we want patient safety and informed consent, we must:

• Define protected specialist standards for endometriosis surgery

• Restrict excision surgery to accredited, trained specialists

• Fund multidisciplinary endometriosis centres

• Ensure proper follow-up and long-term care

• Recognise endometriosis as a surgical sub-specialty, not routine gynaecology

Endometriosis patients deserve expertise. Not assumption. Not preventable harm.

This petition exists because awareness alone is not enough. Standards must change.
