On Monday July 21st I was rushed by Ambulance out of Kerry to one of our Government Appointed “Supra Clinics” despite being discharged by the other one of our “Supra Clinic” lead consultants in January for being “too complex”
There was no Specialist Care available for my needs!
After a three hour wait in Triage I finally was brought to my bed at 2am!
That was after being transferred from another hospital in Kerry.
I was treated very well by staff who took care of me but could not help me with my Endometriosis Needs because they did not have the multidisciplinary team required.
I could not access the surgery I so desperately needed and will now be forced to leave the island of Ireland for that specialist treatment.
On July 15th the Minister of Health stood up in the Dàil Chambers and said “Irish Women have the Choice to leave Ireland for specialist treatment”
This is not My Choice!
I have known since my last surgery in 2022 that I wasn’t recovering in fact I was deteriorating!
For 18 months the “top oncologist” I had surgery with gaslit me and dismissed me and refused me scans and referrals so I went elsewhere and it was confirmed that my bowel was damaged!
All my life I’ve suffered with a diseased bowel and wasn’t been taken seriously for decades pushing for tests and diagnosis.
Why do we have to fight so hard to be heard in this country?
Endometriosis was left behind in my last surgery and has been spreading for three years - there was no one in Ireland specialized to help me!
I struggled through symptoms doing everything in my power to prevent flare ups!
Because I have already survived two rounds of sepsis since 2016 when I was hit with similar symptoms over the weekend I knew to go to hospital and rule out sepsis knowing how seriously I need surgery that I can’t access here in Ireland!
I am tired of having to beg for basic healthcare in my own country!
I asked to be discharged because what was the point in taking up a bed just for pain management when I could go home to my own bed - thankfully clear of any infection but knowing I need surgery!
I am tired but this path still has some rough patches ahead but I’ve gotten this far I will leave the state again but this time for specialist endometriosis surgery - but why should I have to leave?
This day last week I attended the Endometriosis Motion in Leinster House & the Minister of Health has further failed the women of Ireland.
Shame on her!
