Sinn Fein will bring the First Ever Motion on Endometriosis to the Floor of the Dàil tomorrow night and I will be watching from the viewing gallery at Leinster House.
I have lived with the symptoms of Endometriosis all my life, I was 26 years old before I was formally diagnosed with a Stage 4 diagnosis in 2005 and it was unbeknownst to me that I was not being treated correctly in Ireland until 2022 after 15 surgeries & the loss of 6 organs by then!
I had secondary infertility before I was even 30 years old after being put through 2 rounds of chemical induced menopause as a form of treatment and ablation surgeries that are not advised when a woman is not finished her family which I wasn’t.
In 2016 at the age of 37 I endured a hysterectomy that broke my heart & I have never emotionally recovered from that & so grateful for the one son I am so blessed to have.
I have spent decades in and out of hospitals where Medics were not trained to know that Endometriosis is a Whole Body disease.
Because I have never been seen by an Endometriosis Specialist in Ireland disease was left behind in my last surgery and has now spread severely that I will need to leave Ireland for major surgery, more major surgery which I am currently making arrangements for and is very scary to have to leave my own country because the doctors are not available to me here!
Imagine having to fly to another country to receive major surgery - the travel and accommodation costs alone on top of medical expenses as well as being physically & emotionally taxing!
This motion is historic and I’m overwhelmed with emotions that this is finally getting the attention it deserves.
If you are in Government please support this motion as our community deserve so much better than what is available to us in Ireland.
