Change the name of Thompson drive to reflect a real hero: Corporal George Jayne.
The Issue
Hey everyone, while we are focused on who we honor and should not, please do not overlook street names. Thompson Drive/ North Thompson Drive in Bay Shore/ North Bay Shore is named after Issac Thompson a slave owner who accumulated generational wealth, which was later combined with the Gardner family wealth. In addition as Thompson served as a judge within the town he deeded the poorest people over to the richest families. The block should be renamed to reflect a real hero that embodies what we should all inspire to be; Corporal George F. Jayne. Jayne was a Black Civil War soldier from Bay Shore who served in Company H, the 8th United States Colored Infantry in September of 1863 to November of 1865. I have all proper documentation of the Thompson family slave records and copies of the military records of Jayne. This is researched with great detail. If anyone has any further questions feel free to message me.
