Hi all,

It’s been a tricky few months in our journey to save the mulberry tree.

But through the passion and ingenuity of the community we have managed to take some steps towards keeping it safe.

The best thing that any one of us can do is to email Islington Council’s planning dept for your objection to the Section 73 planning notice to cut it down be heard.  We have created this easy link:

In mid-February our hopes were raised by the leader of Islington Council, Richard Watts, in a tweet to me that the Council would ‘pause’ plans to axe the tree.  Obviously for years the Council promised residents the tree would be safe, with this written into the original planning documents.

But rapidly, and heartbreakingly, a piece of paper was nailed to the tree by Islington Council, stating it was diseased and would be felled with week.

So Park View residents and other local people organised an independent arborologist’s report - we all chipped in together, anything we could, to pay for it.  And report states that the tree is healthy enough live on for hundreds and hundreds of years.

Islington Council have acknowledged the report and the health of the tree.  But still we have no assurances the the Council will stick to their word from the original consultations and planning document, that the footprint of the new building would allow for the community’s mature, fruiting mulberry tree to be preserved.

Instead we have the Council’s own Section 73 notice to remove the tree - and we need your help!  The link is above.

Thank you so much for your support! Also, will you help me to get more support by sharing this petition with ten other people? If enough of us sign we can’t be ignored! Here’s a link to share https://www.change.org/p/islington-council-save-our-mulberry-tree-park-view-estate-london
