Restart the consultation process for the visitor centre at Caledonian Park
The Issue
For the following reasons we the undersigned oppose the plans and proposals for a Visitor centre at the Northern Gate in Caledonian Park.
The development:
- will blight the views of the park from North Rd and for all residents of New Clocktower Place and Clockview Crescent
- will increase noise pollution and potential for anti-social behaviour in a residential area
- has no proper vehicular access/parking for visitors
- is far too big for the park and will take up open landscaped space
We also believe that this consultation has not been conducted fairly or properly, that it was misleading, biased and flawed, that the Council consistently refuses to take our views and valid concerns into consideration, and that a public consultation on a project of this magnitude and impact which receives a response of just 198, only 87 of which support it, is not sufficient to justify pushing through an unpopular development.
We demand that the Islington Council reopens the consultation process from stage one and has an open, honest and candid dialogue with the residents and others potentially affected by the proposed development. We also demand that this includes further options for the Southern Gate and for no development at all.
