HELP STOP THE RE-ZONING OF THE LAND AROUND NEWTOWN SANTON FOR A MAJOR HOUSING DEVELOPMENT

• Under the draft Area Plan for the East there is a proposal that our Government is currently considering, to re-zone an area of countryside on the Northern end of the village to become a ‘Strategic Housing Reserve’.

• If it becomes a ‘strategic housing reserve’, it means that at any point in the future, it could be called upon to have a development of between 35 and 65 new houses, nearly doubling the size of our village;

• The location of the development will affect the beautiful countryside views that nearly all of us in Newtown enjoy from our own homes;

• The location of the development is on an area of wetland that is recognised by the Manx Wildlife Trust as being a site of significant wildlife interest, with a wide variety of wildlife.

• The government’s own projections say that only an additional 1358 new homes are needed in the East to meet projected demands – which can easily be met by available sites around Douglas – yet they still want re-zone a site next to our village and put nearly 5% of them here!
