Why this petition matters

Started by WuSA

The black African members of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, South Africa have been and are still undergoing a lack of representation in the leadership structures of the Society. They are suffering poor levels of support within the existing management structure and lack resources to carry out the Founder-Acaryas desire to spread the message of Krishna to the host population and others outside of the 2.5 % Indian demographic of South Africa. This is due to a conscious or unconscious bias and racial discrimination perpetrated by almost 95%, Indian leadership. What is needed is that the African devotees be given a voice to express their concerns, ideas, as well as the authority to run the initiatives aimed at African Outreach. We request support for the measurable steps that the GBC could take which are stipulated in the Open Letter compiled by African devotees. If this is done some dignity will be restored for Africans in the movement but failure to do this will continue the trend of non-participation of the host population. We would like to see a future where all races have equal access and representation. If this issue is tackled, the mission of our Founder-Acarya A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada will be secured in the country and simultaneously flourish as well as genuinely reflect the rainbow nation of South Africa.
