The government wants to regularise motorcycle helmet manufacturing and standardise it. A good move – this will dissuade people from buying cheap and useless roadside helmets simply to escape the legal fine. BUT, international brands such as Arai, Shoei, AGV and others already comply with international safety standards such as SNELL, ECE, DOT, Sharp, which are even more stringent than the Indian standards. These brands certainly don’t need to be under the same regulations as they are well above the ISI standards of safety. Banning these limits bikers’ choices, especially those who are looking to spend on international-level helmets. There are more than enough of us willing to invest in our safety while on the road – let’s get the government to see sense and exclude these international brands from the ban.
