The character Black Widow is a strong, smart, powerful female heroine. Scarlett Johansson has portrayed the character in two Avenger movies and two stand alone movies starring male heroes. She is a role model for little girls and adult women everywhere.
Female representation in the comic movie industry has always been vastly ignored. Other than Wonder Woman, there has never been a strong female recurring character for female fans to be invested in and look to as a positive female lead.
It is time for Marvel to give the character of Black Widow her own movie. While Marvel is unsure of the risk of making a stand alone female lead movie, it is more of a risk to introduce Captain Marvel as a lead than Black Widow who has a proven four movie record with fans.
Little girls as well as adult women want to see Scarlett Johansson as a fully developed character of Black Widow. She has done nothing but support her supposed male equals in four movies. As she states in AoU, she us always cleaning up after the boys. Her back story is probably one of the most entertaining and dramatic of all the stories. The time to tell it is long overdue.
When every Marvel movie comes out there are tons of toys and clothing for every male character, there is little to none for Black Widow. Her Universe, created by Ashley Eckstein, has proven there is a market for female comic fans. Other than the Marvel attire Her Universe it is hard to find a simple Black Widow tee shirt. While there is an onslaught of Ironman and Captain America merchandise there is zero Black Widow.
It is time for Marvel Entertainment to recognize the legions of female fans and give us a movie starring Scarlett Johansson as the badass female hero in the lead.
