Dear Sheriff DeWees,
I am writing on behalf of the Carroll County residents who have signed the attached petition in support of this Public Information Act request.
This is a request under the Maryland Public Information Act. We are writing to request records in possession or control of your office regarding the number of individuals detained in the Carroll County Detention Center for immigration violations and/or held for the Department of Homeland Security/ICE.
We are requesting any and all records from January 1, 2019 to the present relating to:
- Number of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainees and/or detainers held in Carroll County Detention Center (CCDC)
- Average daily number of ICE detainees and/or detainers held in the CCDC, and/or the highest number
- Average monthly number of ICE detainees and/or detainers held in the CCDC, and/or the highest number
- Average length of detention for ICE detainees and/or detainers held in the CCDC, and/or the longest
- Number of ICE detainees and/or detainers currently held in the CCDC underCarroll County, MD’s 287(g) agreement with the Department of Homeland Security
- Daily rate CCDC is paid per detainee and/or detainer by DHS per the 287(g) agreement with Carroll County, MD
- Percentage of ICE detainees and/or detainers held in the CCDC who are Carroll County residents
We are asking for information that is relevant to those residents of Carroll County who want to know if our County Detention Center is being used to hold those suspected of immigration violations in order to better understand how this impacts our community and how we can help to support these individuals.
As residents who are seeking information in the public interest, we seek a waiver of all fees. If this is not granted, we request to be informed of any fees before our request is processed.
If all or any part of this request is denied, I request that I be provided with a written statement of the grounds for the denial.
Thank you in advance for your prompt attention to this request.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
Sincerely,
