Petition updateWe Demand the IRS Commissioner Begin an Investigation into Scientology's Tax Exempt StatusScientology: Refunds and Repayments of Monies on Account

In my opinion, one of the main reasons why the Church of Scientology should lose its IRS tax exemption is for fraud. For example, Scientology salespeople, called registrars, work hard everyday to extract as much money as possible from Scientologists.
When Scientologists donate money for auditing or other services they are told they can get their money back for two reasons:
1. Scientologists are told they can get a refund if they are dissatisfied with the services they received.
2. Scientologists are told they can their money back they haven't used for services. This is called a "repayment." If someone wants to leave Scientology and has, say, $100,00 "on account" they haven't used, they would ask for a repayment.
This is what the Church of Scientology told the IRS. However, in actual practice it doesn't work out that way. Scientology's refund and repayment policy is deliberately designed to prevent, to the greatest degree possible, anyone from getting their money back. In my opinion, this is both bad faith and fraud.
The article linked below from my Scientology Money Project goes into detail. It is a great read for people who like details.
