Construction has begun on a Multinational fast food outlet in Manor West, Tralee, Co. Kerry.
In 2026.
At a time when we have more access than ever to research on ultra-processed foods.
At a time when chronic illness, obesity, inflammatory conditions and diet-related disease are rising.
At a time when local independent businesses are fighting to keep their doors open.
And yet - multinational fast-food corporations continue to expand into our communities.
Who in our county planning office decided this is what Kerry needs?
🧠 We Know Better Now
We are living in an era where:
Evidence linking ultra-processed foods to serious health outcomes is widely available.
Irish vegetable farms have declined dramatically.
Local producers are struggling against multinational buying power.
Communities are being squeezed out by corporations whose profits leave the county.
Planning permission is not just about buildings.
It’s about the direction of a community.
👩🍳 This Is Personal For Me
When I established The Gluten Free Kitchen Company in 2011, I built my model around:
Locally sourced ingredients
Quality over profit
Evidence-based nutrition
Long-term community health
I presented research.
I presented lived experience.
I presented a sustainable Irish food model.
What I was told repeatedly?
Investors wanted higher margins.
Decision-makers wanted scale.
Quality was secondary to profit.
Fifteen years later, we are still watching corporations prioritised over community health.
❌ This Is Why I Launched My Petition
My petition calls for:
Restrictions on ultra-processed food expansion
Stronger planning scrutiny for multinational fast-food outlets
Support for local food producers
Public health placed ahead of corporate profit
This isn’t about one shop.
It’s about the system.
It’s about asking:
Who benefits?
And more importantly -
Who pays the long-term cost?
✊ From Lived Experience
I have lived the consequences of health systems stretched beyond capacity.
I have lived the reality of chronic illness.
I have lived the fight to prove that quality food matters.
This is not theoretical for me.
This is lived.
And that’s why I will continue to speak out.
