Stop Irish Government sealing Mother and Baby home records for 30 years

The Issue

Many survivors of Mother and Baby homes have spent their lives looking for answers. Baby’s born and rehomed, removed from the arms of their mothers. Many mothers forced to work their to pay for their involuntary institutionalisation. Mothers told their pain in childbirth was gods punishment for their sins. Mothers shamed, shunned and brutalised. Mothers who had their babies stolen from their arms, some at birth and some after nursing them and living them with no warning. Many mothers have gone to their graves without justice or closure. Many are elderly and still searching for truth. How can a decision to seal records for 30 years, especially in light of the outrageous history of many of these homes becoming known to the public at large in recent years, be given any justification. It’s a cruel, unjust, criminal even move to seal records beyond the lifespan of so many survivors who deserve closure and peace. They’ve had a history of their country letting them down so it’s time we as a country stand up for them and make some noise. We will not allow these records to be sealed, not in our democracy, not against the justice deserved to the generations that came before us and paved the way for our lives. They deserve so much better, as do we. Please sign and keep making noise about this injustice
