A horse suffered a cut to the head and another had blood at his nostrils after a race at Dundalk Racecourse on 26 January 2024.
Sickening details published on the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board website show that 6-year-old British horse Betrayed "sustained a cut to the head" and 7-year-old Nearly A Gonna "was found to have had blood at both nostrils post race".
The jockey atop Betrayed reported afterwards that “the [starting] stall was slow to open for his mount” and another "requested to the Clerk of the Scales that the stalls be re-tested".
There were collisions for others horses used in the same race after this apparent issue with the starting stalls.
"No Speed Limit" and Adams Barbour stumbled after anticipating the start and hitting the gate. Astral Beat and Phil's Dream, meanwhile, "hit the stalls", while Haumea "hit the gate".
