A big THANK YOU to Maldron Hotels for removing greyhound racing from its Limerick website.
The company deleted Limerick greyhound stadium from a “top things to do in Limerick” page after ICABS highlighted the cruelty and killing in greyhound racing.
“Limerick Stadium is one of the worst tracks in Ireland for dog injuries and deaths,” we stated. “256 greyhounds suffered painful injuries there and 78 were killed over the past five years alone, sickening Irish Greyhound Board statistics show. At tracks around Ireland in the same period, 1,891 greyhounds were injured and 625 were killed.”
Also highlighted was the fact that Failte Ireland and Tourism Ireland have stopped promoting greyhound racing due to fears that it damages Ireland's image as a tourist destination. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/ireland/shane-ross-immoral-dog-racing-will-deter-tourists-982nwhwb9
The horrors of greyhound racing were exposed in the award-winning "RTE Investigates: Greyhounds Running For Their Lives" documentary which revealed that around 6,000 dogs are killed every year simply because they are not fast enough to win races https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYTb2qBjlMM
