The Dublin SPCA is calling on the Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed TD to "stop all state funding to the greyhound industry WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT"
In a statement issued today, the DSPCA said it was "horrified but not surprised" at the content of the "RTE Investigates: Greyhounds Running for Their Lives” programme broadcast last night.
"The greyhound industry in Ireland continues to receive millions of euro of support from the taxpayer for this brutality to greyhounds," it stated: "It is simply unacceptable for the Department of Agriculture to continue to provide this funding and to turn a blind eye to the thousands of unwanted greyhounds slaughtered every year."
The DSPCA is now urging Agriculture Minister Michael Creed TD to "stop all state funding to the greyhound industry with immediate effect".
