On the 21st September 2019, Jerome Garces officiated abysmally the most high profile test match of the year between the All Blacks and the Springboks.

This was not a question of one or two dodgy decisions, rather, it was a litany of incorrect calls from the ref across the full 80 minutes resulting in a lopsided penalty count which did not reflect a tightly contested game. Garces was more interested in being the star of the show than in doing the job the IRB pays him so handsomely for.

NZ could have still won the game with a competent official in charge of proceedings and hats off to them. But this man cannot ref the final and risk bringing the game into disrepute.
