The issue

Today on a beautiful Sunday morning, an elderly man (85 years old) was walking his beloved and best friend a small Maltese called Milo. Whilst walking at Gibbs Park Springfield (footy fields next to Coles) his doggy has been viciously mauled by an off lead dog. The owner of the dog has cowardly left the scene and the Maltese is in emergency care

There is not a day that goes by from morning until noon that people take their dogs here unrestrained, there are no signs here and zero enforcement. We all have the right to walk our dogs here and feel safe to do so. It is the law and it should be enforced

The effects to owner and dog is monetarily and emotionally detrimental.

We should live in a safe community free from harm and danger and would like to see the local council do more to ensure this remains a safe place for children and dogs to play. This is dangerous to children, other dogs, people with genuine fears of dogs, elderly, sick and the community to allow this to continue.

We simply ask for the council to reinforce punishment for breaking the law before someone’s dog or child is killed and people STOP allowing their dogs to roam free and unrestrained and do more within our community to stop this from happening.
