Iowans with serious medical conditions are asking lawmakers for safe and legal access to medical cannabis when it is medically appropriate. Iowans for Medical Cannabis (I4MC) supports additional legislation that allows people with severe medical conditions to become licensed to access medical Cannabis in our state with no fear of legal retaliation.

The I4MC coalition supports legislation that will allow controlled access to safe, affordable medical cannabis within Iowa to reduce the suffering of Iowa’s living with debilitating chronic conditions.  These policies include:

• Establishing controlled Iowa production, processing, testing and dispensing of cannabis for medical purposes in the state.
• Creating a Medical Cannabis Advisory Committee within the Department of Public Health. The committee would be comprised of medical professionals (doctors, pharmacists) who would monitor the program and determine what medical conditions would benefit from access to medical cannabis in Iowa.
• Removing cannabis from Schedule I (Iowa Code, Chapter 124.204) so as to recognize its medicinal benefits and to allow for academic research and clarify its medical use in Iowa.
