Did you know Iowa has no existing laws in regards to the age a puppy leaves its mother ?! Not only do puppies learn acceptable behavior from Mom in those important weeks from birth to 8 weeks , but also need to be vaccinated and away from other animals or areas that may infect them until vaccinated. As a breeder , it is very important to keep a properly cleaned area and to introduce your pups to various stimulations. Puppies should receive well pup visits from Veterinarians before leaving their mother as well. Between the ages of 4-5 weeks puppies begin whelping. This is when solid food is introduced in increments with feedings from Mom. This process can take a few days or weeks depending on the litter , however should not be forced. Also socialization with their pack is essential to ensure the proper “rules” are introduced to the dogs. This helps create a socially balanced dog in the future.
