Yellow River State Forest needs a full-time park ranger!

The Issue

Yellow River State Forest needs a full-time park ranger!
In May 2021, the Iowa DNR reduced the full-time park ranger at Yellow River State Forest to just 25 percent. The campgrounds and state forest need a full time park ranger to keep the tens of thousands of visitors safe and protect resources including endangered species.
The Iowa DNR and the State of Iowa need to fully fund the full-time park ranger position at Yellow River State Forest, and Rylan Retallick needs to be reinstated as the full-time Yellow River State Forest park ranger.
As part of this change, the Iowa DNR has also stated they are going to do “passive management” at Yellow River State Forest - simply put, this means the DNR will let this beautiful place deteriorate and will not enforce their own codes. Yellow River State Forest is a one-of-kind state park and forest and the Iowa DNR should fulfill their own mission statement to “conserve and enhance our natural resources…  ensuring a legacy for future generations” by having a full time park ranger at Yellow River.
The unique beauty of this amazing place needs to be preserved for future generations, and it needs to stay family friendly be enforcing DNR code concerning noise, alcohol, etc.
