Reimburse Students for Room & Board + Tuition for Time Excluded From Campus

The Issue

We, Students of Iona College, are residents and commuters, who due to unforeseen circumstances that may possibly extend, should be reimbursed for the finances we handed over as we are not accessing what we have paid to receive for the months of late January to mid May. We believe it’s appropriate we be returned tuition dollars back. Lecturers now only have to input to a computer to calculate grades and score our exams we have to take (essays, quizzes  etc.) Would you pay for an individual to teach you for four months, only to in actuality, teach three quarters of which, and still receive the money you’ve handed over for FULLY TAUGHT courses? Would you pay to reside in a dorm for four months, and only be in there for three, but still sit well with the fact that you have paid for a complete semesters stay? How would you feel if the only home you had was the dorms you have money banking on, but had to leave? What if you live in another country, came to this campus to gain an education, and now because of early closings and such, have to find your own way back home suddenly? Who pays for the travel? The students. Who has paid tuition for classes that now will be only taught online for the potential time being? The students. Who pays for the dorms they now don’t reside in? The students. Who has the money worth a full semesters ride from the pockets of hard working parents and independent individuals alike, who now have to resort to conversing with professors through email, and have no choice but to teach themselves content from pre-prepared presentations? The students. It is obvious the ones being slighted due to these events are the ones who seek the education they have paid for. The understanding of the epidemic at hand is fully noted, but if the methods and style of education one pays for suddenly changes due to no fault of our own, why is it we should have to deal with shelling over a semesters worth of money and answer to a computer?
To add, some don’t have the resources at home to complete classes online. Some only rely on what campus has to offer them in the hopes of finishing their degree. Some are now losing abilities to maintain incomes and pay for certain things tied to Iona.
A perspective to take to get what we mean: Would it be fair that an individual who only comes in part time be paid full-time? Would it be fair that someone who has given up money for a whole semester be taught from online and still have to pay as if they’re sitting on campus? In the dorm they may pay for? To wait for the lecturers to lecture them...like they pay for? No. Not at all.
In the end, it is US the STUDENTS that have scraped up and handed over money for a full product we are not receiving. It is only appropriate that we get the percentage of which we are not getting, returned.

With all due respect,

The Iona College Student Body.
