The horror and brutality being inflicted on the Rohingya in Myanmar is documented and verified, and yet Canada and the rest of the world do little to prevent a genocide. In many ways this is like Nazi Germany all over again, the way that Jews were targeted simply for being Jewish. It has been four months since the first reports of atrocities were reported in the West. More than 300 Rohingya villages have been destroyed. Tens of thousands of Rohingya women have been gang raped by Myanmar soliders (over 70,000 women in refugee camps in Bangladesh are pregnant from rape according to the International Red Cross). Tens of thousands of innocent men, women and children have been killed by Myanmar soldiers and nationalist groups. And more than 625,000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh to escape the horrors of their persecutors in Myanmar. And yet the Canadian government and the international community takes no action. Only a massive outcry from ordinary people will push the government to take the action needed to stop the atrocities and to allow the Rohingya to live in peace.
