Bangladesh, an impoverished country, has vowed to help the Rohingya. Yet Canada, a wealthy country, which has been asked to take action to help the Rohingya by the more than 43,000 people who have signed this petition has been practically silent.
Other than a couple of statements by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland the Canadian government has not responded to calls by supporters of this petition or Canaddians in general to take decisive action against Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi, or to work with the UN to help the Rohingya who are being subjected to ethnic cleansing, crimes against humanity and genocide by the Myanmar military.
An overwhelming number of Canadians see Canada as a compassionate nation that speaks up on behalf of people like the Rohingya that are persecuted and suffering brutality that most Canadians couldn't imagine. So why has Canada remained so silent about helping a people the UN has called "the most persecuted minority in the world" when a country like Bangladesh with far fewer resources has been willing to step up?
If you are also wondering why then email Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and ask him. His email address is Justin.Trudeau@parl.gc.ca.
Or you can call his office at (613) 992-4211.
