Invite all former U.S. presidents to White House Correspondents' Dinner to support press.
Journalists play a crucial role when it comes to democracy and preventing tyranny. Without the press, Americans are unable to learn what's happening behind closed doors, prevent abuse of power, and hold elected leaders accountable. Our founding fathers made sure that the media's rights are protected so that the power stays with the people and not with a monarch or a dictator. Yet President Donald Trump is taking the unprecedented action of keeping journalists out of press briefings, keeping them from covering official state visits, and labeling any negative media coverage of him or his administration as "fake news." He tweeted on February 25 that he would not attend this year's White House correspondents' dinner. I propose all former U.S. presidents attend in solidarity with the press and in support of their first amendment rights. Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama should come together on April 29 to attend this annual event.

Despite what President Donald Trump and his supporters believe, the vast majority of Americans support the press to keep him and his staff from becoming a cancerous empire. Since he's declined to attend the annual White House correspondents' dinner, please invite all former U.S. presidents to the annual event in an effort to show the nation their support for free press. Former Presidents Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama have all had their share of clashes with the media. However, they respect journalism, as well as the constitution. A show of unity is critical during this presidential term that's paving a deep path of alienation, secrecy, and deception.
