The Issue

Alice Whittington, a beloved educator with a strong background in reading, has been asked to resign or retire before she reaches her full 30-year tenure in the Avery County School system. Despite her seniority, she's facing a premature end to her time at Freedom Trail, for unclear reasons. What we do know is Alice's commitment to providing her students with a calming, safe classroom environment where they can thrive and grow. Alice has dedicated her career to helping struggling students, an approach which often conflicts with the new Ron Clark program introduced by the current principal.

This new program has raised numerous concerns within our community. It reportedly prioritizes house parties over academics, taking nearly two hours a week away from classroom learning. Moreover, the chaos and confusion brought by this system have resulted in students leaving school early on days the house system meets. Unconfirmed anecdotes include bizarre behavior by the principal, such as wearing snakes around her neck and displaying false tattoos of snakes.

The situation Alice finds herself in seems an undue retaliation for her non-compliance with the new system. We urge Avery County School to investigate Alice's premature retirement call transparently. We wish to get answers, understand the circumstances surrounding Alice's sudden and unexplained exit, and explore the ramifications of the implemented program for our children's education. We ask you to join us in this struggle for transparency and accountability - sign this petition to support our call for a fair investigation.
