Florida USA is failing autistic people statewide. I did not recieve any occupational therapy since age 12 even though I need OT therapy very greatly and I've deteriorated without it. Florida's education and rehabilitation system is a cruel joke compared to New York's and England's. I have not attended any school outside home since 14 due to severe sensory processing disorder, dysmenorhea, math learning issues and severe menstrual-induced behavior issues. Nothing appropriate exists here in Florida.

Living in Florida and growing up with autism, I experienced numerous challenges that were not only overwhelming but also deeply frustrating due to the discriminatory practices of healthcare institutions such as TCCH (Treasure Coast Community Health of Roseland/Fellsmere). One pivotal incident was when, despite being near the age of 21, I found myself in critical need of care, yet was met with "gatekeeping" by TCCH, who cited my "physiological age" as a reason to deny necessary medical attention. This left me vulnerable and almost led to an involuntary hospitalization during a period of extreme emotional distress triggered by estrogen.

I requested testosterone therapy and estrogen blockers, but the TCCH physician instead gave me a printed PDF of "estrogen rich foods/foods to increase estrogen levels" and said the only medicine I could take was estrigen-based birth control ("BC") pills which gave me massive suicidality and depression episodes until I stopped taking them completely. But the daily ovary pains and vomiting never stopped since.

TCCH dentistry (Fellsmere) never cleaned my teeth and never treated any of my cavities, due to insurance denial (and possibly anti-autism sentiment). I now have a chipped tooth that has yet to be treated, and multiple unfilled cavities from neglectful dentistry.

TCCH's neurologist refused to see me because of my autism diagnosis.

Unfortunately, my ordeals didn't end there. The onset of female puberty introduced a series of debilitating challenges that crippled my quality of life. Standing at 5'4", I endured severe and heavy menstrual bleeding from the age of ten. Chronic ovary pains and severe, intense bleeding caused me to often engage in self-harm (hitting myself in the ovaries and uterus in hopes Id get early menopause and not have to wait until age 30/40/50 to stop bleeding myself out) especially in my late teens. Chronic ovarian pains and untreated estrogen-induced dysphoria gave me a vomiting disorder and food anxety I struggle with daily for about five years now. My hipbones (iliac crests) have widened so much from too much estrogen that I struggle to fit into pants and shorts. Despite seeking elective oophorectomy and hysterectomy to alleviate these struggles, I was denied due to misleading information available online and the personal biases of healthcare providers and my own parents being deceived (possibly by TCCH staff) by frequenting anti-transgender (pro "detransition" medical blogs) and anti-autism websites (such as "Age of Autism" and autism grievance websites) that demonize elective oophorectomy and hysterectomy as "horrific procedures", "chopping off 'healthy organs'/surgical mutilation of autistic girls/female genital mutilation" even comparing these life-improving surgeries I'm trying to get, to "Nazis sterilizing the disabled/Jewish billionaire schemes sterilizing the disabled who got 'tricked into surgery'".

Anti-Transgender laws and rhetoric is inherently and inseparably Antisemitic and portrays Jews and Hebrews as "Satan worshippers" supposedly "mutilating and sterilizing "girls who think they're boys" (misgendering transmasculine people and treating them as "helpless babies in adult bodies") according to Anti-Trans extremist websites and platforms such as Genspect and The American Spectator.

Many people still believe that Trans people are "mentally ill" and  "should be locked up" in mental hospitals (such as Benny Johnson, BlackPigeonSpeaks, TERFs, etc). Transphobes such as JK Rowling, Joe Rogan, etc keep promoting dangerous ideas to delay and deny transmasculine surgeries and Healthcare such as delaying Healthcare "until the brain finishes developing at 25/26" even though neuroplasticity is lifelong and never stops (massively increasing suicide and self injury rates and causing irreversible skeletal changes that'll require surgery and other treatments) and rebranding harmful "transgender-ism cures" as "gender exploration therapy" trying to force Trans people into "becoming cis". Many of these extremists have thousands/millions of followers online and it's these people and their kin who brainwashed doctors and my state (Florida) into delaying, denying and mistreating me based on my desired gender and physical health issues alongside my autism diagnosis.

Many Anti-Trans organizations also promote Chlorine Dioxide (MMS Bleach) and other dangerous "autism cures" online to desparate parents. Authors such as Matt Walsh and Abigail Shrier demonize and portrays transgender-affirming surgeries and Healthcare as "satanic" or "not fixing the real problem". The "real problem" they want fixed is to literally kill us all and force us to be prisoners in bodies that betray us.

The discrimination I faced highlights a significant issue at TCCH and Florida's healthcare in general statewide, where, every day, autistic individuals like me encounter barriers to receiving timely and adequate healthcare. My story reflects a larger systemic issue where autistic people are unfairly judged and denied care based on outdated or incorrect perceptions of their needs.

Florida citizens should be concerned about such practices because they reveal a lack of understanding and compassion in our healthcare system. It is imperative that TCCH and their policies be investigated for these discriminatory practices to ensure that autistic individuals are treated with dignity, respect, and fairness, not gatekeeping, delaying/denying/dumping.

We demand a comprehensive investigation into the practices at TCCH to uncover and address any instances of discrimination against autistic people. It is critical that healthcare providers are held accountable for the services they offer and the standards they maintain. Ensuring equity in healthcare is not just a legal obligation but a moral one.

Your signature can help bring change and justice not only for me but for all current and future patients who are at risk of discrimination. Sign this petition to urge Florida’s health authorities to investigate TCCH and establish a more inclusive healthcare system.
