Investigate Tampa General for Elderly Patient Neglect

Investigate Tampa General for Elderly Patient Neglect
The Issue
I'm Ariel Raymond, and my family is speaking out because of the appalling treatment my aunt received at Tampa General Hospital. She, an elderly, medically fragile woman with cancer, diabetes, and dementia, was transferred there for urgent ocular surgery. Instead of receiving the care she desperately needed, she languished for three days in a hallway. Once finally in a room, she was neglected, left without proper monitoring, essential medications, or even basic nourishment.
Our family documented these failures: missed diabetic care, untouched food and water while staff ignored her inability to feed herself, cracked lips, and confusion with medications, including her cancer medication being mishandled. She was in the cardiac recovery pod, yet her needs were grossly ignored. When we contacted Patient Relations, we were dismissed with promises of "awareness," not action.
This isn't just our family's tragedy. Tampa General has a troubling history of malpractice and negligence allegations, including a massive $70 million jury award (later reduced) for emergency care negligence. There have been numerous other settlements and regulatory actions highlighting a pattern of systemic neglect, particularly for vulnerable patients like my aunt. This pattern raises critical questions: Who safeguards these patients when they can't advocate for themselves? Who ensures diabetic and oncology patients receive timely medication and nutrition?
We demand a thorough investigation into Tampa General's treatment of elderly, cognitively impaired, and high-risk patients. We need accountability and reform to prevent further tragedies. This is a call to action for local leaders, regulatory bodies, and the public. Share this petition, tag media channels, and let’s make #Justice4Tania amplify our cause.
Please sign this petition to insist on a systematic review and enforce real change at Tampa General. We cannot let such neglect continue unseen. Your support can help ensure no other family endures what we have.
