Investigate Rosewood Kennels Over Puppy Mutilation Claims
The Issue
A new undercover investigation from PETA has surfaced disturbing claims about Rosewood Kennels, a dog breeding business in Wisconsin. According to the investigation, the operator has described performing surgery on newborn puppies herself — cutting into their nostrils and removing their dewclaws — without anesthesia or veterinary oversight.
The operator reportedly connects the nostril-cutting to breeding pugs for extremely short, flat faces, a trait that can leave puppies struggling to breathe from birth. In other words, one painful procedure is being used to patch over a problem caused by another deliberate breeding choice.
Newborn puppies feel pain just like any other animal. Cutting into their nostrils and removing their dewclaws are invasive procedures that, when medically necessary at all, should only ever be performed by a licensed veterinarian using proper anesthesia and sterile technique — not by a breeder working alone on days-old puppies. And breeding dogs for facial structures so extreme that they can't breathe properly isn't a cosmetic quirk — it's a welfare crisis hiding in plain sight across the breed.
Wisconsin's animal welfare authorities need to look into what's happening at this kennel, and breeders across the state need clear, enforced limits on what can be done to newborn animals without a veterinarian present. Puppies can't advocate for themselves.
Sign this petition to demand an investigation into Rosewood Kennels and stronger oversight of breeding practices that put puppies through unnecessary pain — before more litters go through this.
