I felt compelled to initiate this petition due to a deeply personal concern about the wellbeing of animals. I have a shocking, firsthand experience with Ugandan scammers who deceptively build massive profiles on Instagram. They solicit for donations under the pretense of helping animals, but upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that they are actively participating in animal cruelty and subjecting these innocent beings to horrific living conditions.

The vast number of these fake profiles and fraudulent accounts on Instagram is alarming. They not only promote and participate in the abuse of helpless animals but also prey on the compassion of well-meaning individuals worldwide. Instagram, as a globally influential social media platform, should take a firm stand against such gross misuse of its platform.

The proliferation of these accounts and the images they share is deeply troubling. Furthermore, the fact that this abuse is happening under the cover of charity only makes the matter worse. Instagram has an indispensable role to play in addressing this issue. It is critical that they ramp up their efforts and work rigorously to close these accounts, eliminate all images associated with animal abuse, and bring those responsible to justice.

Evidence supports that animal abuse is a serious issue across the globe. For instance, the World Animal Protection estimates that globally, over a billion animals are not adequately protected by laws (source: World Animal Protection estimates, 2021). This issue is magnified by platforms like Instagram, where unscrupulous individuals can act with relative impunity and reach a global audience, thereby doing significant harm to animals and those who seek to support them.

This petition implores Instagram to act urgently in investigating all fraudulent accounts and removing images of animal abuse. It is high time we stand up for the rights of animals and take action against those who exploit them. Our collective voice can make a significant change.
