According to the account, the influencer shared misleading updates during the booking, assured the owner the dog was fine, and only later claimed there had been an emergency. The animal was reportedly returned in a suitcase along with its belongings in a bag.

This situation has raised alarm among pet owners, animal welfare advocates, and the broader public. If accurate, it reflects a dangerous failure of both personal accountability and platform oversight.

We are calling on Rover to:

• Immediately investigate the reported incident involving the influencer
• Strengthen sitter accountability standards, including clearer emergency protocols, verified sitter histories, and real consequences for harm
• Disclose how complaints involving sitter negligence or animal deaths are tracked and handled, especially when public figures are involved

Platforms that profit from connecting pet owners with caregivers must not allow anyone, even influencers with large followings, to operate without proper accountability.
