Last week, Massachusetts Environmental Trust responded to my post on their Facebook page.
They wrote: "Have you sent this to Michael Moore at Woods Hole Oceanogrpahic Inst.?"
I replied: "No, but I've let our Canadian politicians (Dominic LeBlanc) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) know. Other whale groups are aware of my efforts, but have not been receptive at all.I guess I could try this gent too. Thanks!"
And I am certain I've left my petition link with a detailed comment on Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution's posts a few times.
But, as many of you know, my comments are flagged and removed (almost immediately) some days.
So, I looked up Michael Moore, found his credentials, and added him to our petition. Source of his bio: http://www.whoi.edu/profile/mmoore
I am hopeful that Dr. Moore can help. Problem is: Oceans Initiative informed me last year that Wolbachia is not routinely tested for in whale necropsies.
And this is the biggest hurdle: no one can even test for it.
If Wolbachia infections are confirmed, azithromycin might help treat these precious mammals.
But I need to warn you, if there are no calves next year, I believe it may be too late. And I encourage you all to sign my petition devoted to helping humans infected with Wolbachia: https://www.change.org/p/oncologists-and-pathologists-acute-inflammatory-response-gbs-uveal-melanoma-or-lymphoma-r-o-rickettsiales-wolbachia
Dr. Moore (and other marine scientists and veterinarians) must know that whatever is killing North American right whales and causing their breeding failures is also happening to other mammals (including us). My video above touches on what is happening "in clusters" in humans.
And "clusters" makes sense since Culex spp. (which can transmit Wolbachia along with viruses) prefer open bodies of water, lakes, swamps, and marshes. They lay their eggs in rafts which will all contain Wolbachia. It's maternally inherited and can never be taken back.
Just a reminder: you never need to donate, exact information is not required, and family members can also sign.
I'll be in touch.
Happy Mother's Day,
Rose
